Double Headine night featuring two of our favourite dance bands here at The Magpie's Nest and Cut A Shine. Both have played for full to bursting nights at the Old Queen's Head, and here team up for a ethno-world-trad-folk-tastic-dance-off at the legendary Cecil Sharp House, Camden's best dancing venue................ First, PAPRIKA BALKANICUS, playing red hot traditional Central and Eastern European tunes with astounding technical precision and beguiling energy and enthusiasm. Since we first booked Paprika at the Old Queen's Head they have toured extensively around the world, rocking shows in Japan and Austrialia, WOMAD, etc, as well as finding the time to light up the muddy dance floors at many UK festivals this year. With packed shows from the South Bank to South Korea, these boys never disappoint nor fail to get the crowds swinging and moving............. Next up THE ZONG ZING ALL STARS, featuring THE top brass congolese musicians resident in the UK. Saturday 22nd September. Having landed after all the festivals, we are producing a season of monthly dances for September, Friday 19th October and Friday 16th November, back at the glorious Finsbury Town Hall in Clerkenwell. We're still ironing out the details and brewing the liquor, but expect some top bands, top fun and games, and some new dances. Highlights are a "Barn Dating" Night and our favourites Fat45 swing band.

In eager anticipation of the festival season, we invite you to come dance at our fundraiser for StokeFest - a free, independent festival to be held in Clissold Park, Stoke Newington on Sunday the 10th of June. This is our favourite free London festival, brought together by volunteers and with little backing from the powers that be! All proceeds from the door and bar will pay for a stage with a top notch line-up including the bands that play here tonight. The splendid Victorian Ballroom of the Finsbury Town hall (see the gallery section) on Roseberry Avenue plays host to our Valentine's Ball - newly refurbished and opened as the Urdang Academy. Barn Dancing from 8pm - 10:30, followed by the jump jiving 11 peice swing band FAT 45 to rock n' roll and jive the dance to a close at 12am. There is free entry to all attendees to the Queen Boadicea late bar, 2 minutes away, for some hip huggin' jitter buggin' DJs into the wee hours.
