About the Band

Cut A Shine is a London based troupe of traditional musicians, dynamic dancers and crazy callers determined to spread the word that the Hoe Down is a’happening. From Hoxton to Humberside, from Amnesty to Bestival, Cut A Shine are putting ceilidh dance back on the map – whether at sell out dances across London or the top summer festivals. This “Anarchic Hillbilly Barn Dancing Squad” host a rip-roaring, thigh-slapping, pavement-stomping, exhilarating, heart thumping, blood pumping barn dance show. Whilst the banjo and the fiddle set the tone, the callers instruct any audience through do-si-do’s and strip the willows, until all are involved!

Cut A Shine Nights.
The band started out by hosting our own Barn Dance parties at venues across London: from Warehouses to old church halls. These quickly grew into monster bashes with bands, DJs and all sorts. Then we started getting into Festivals, and it seemed that our brand of rip roaring fancy dressed dance was just what the doctor ordered!

We now host irregular and large bespoke/themed events across London - from all night warehouse bashes to balls in resplendent and decedent venues.

As the collective has grown, we have know diversified into different strands of shows......

Cut A Shine TRAD: it's all about the dancing! A tight string band of Fiddle, Banjo, Guitar and Double Bass play hoedown, bluegrass and old time tunes (with a healthy measure of Irish and Scottish), whilst the callers instruct audiences through a host of dances new and old....

Cut A Shine PUNK: AKA Vic Doggart's Fun Time, is a full on high pace, high octane, smasheroo of a show taking barn dance into whole new realm of punkabilly mayhem. Prepare to be wowed by modern sounds, high energy delivery and a genuine punk approach. Not for the faint hearted. This is not television. It's a revolution.

Cut A Shine Hoedown ft. Kidnap Alice. It's a hoedown with a kick-ass "soulgrass" band thrown into the mix for a night of stonking tunes and raucous dancing!
